.)  Unity:  This metal work represents unity due to the balance of the three squares evenly distributed while the framework joins them together to create a unified piece of art.

.) Value: This photograph has a wide degree of light and dark, the contrast of the lightened face with the darkness of the background gives value to the photograph.

.) Line: The branch creates a complex shape leading your eye from the base of the stalk to the top.

.) Form: The bowls have a three dimensional shape with wide depth and width.  The stacking of the bowls allows the form to be seen.

.) Color: The painting demonstrates multiple realms of color within it.  The piece defines its shape through the vines and color  of lines against the bright yellow background.

.) Space: The two light sconces show how the space between them affects your view of the objects and the area around them.

.) Emphasis: This painting draws your eye to the mask, and woman's eyes due to the contrast of colors and the fact that the mask is three dimensional.  The artist wants you to notice the woman's eyes in this painting and puts emphasis onto them using the mask.

.) Balance:  This women in the painting is off center however the painting displays balance because she carries her red hair over to the left side drawing your eye through the whole canvas.

.) Contrast: The softness of the kitten is in contrast with the harsh shadow lines.  Therefore, giving a play on textures between soft and hard, the contrast of the two create a harmonized picture.

.) Proportion:  The tomatoes in this photo represent proportion, they are each different shapes and sizes, however they are still all in proportion within the size of the basket.

.) Pattern: The criss crossing of the lattice shapes in the foreground play against the soft grass in the background.  The repetition of these shapes across the photo create pattern.

.) Texture:  The texture in this photo is represented by the surface of the flower.  The petals have a soft texture that is obvious while the center of the flower shows a hard and pointy exterior texture.

.) Shapes: Although the color in the stained glass is varied, the shapes are defined through the black outline of each shape allowing for the form of each shape to be seen.

.) Movement:  This piece allows for the eye to start at the base of the art where the branches are thicker, drawing you to follow it through the carving so your eye moves freely from one end to the other.

Overall, throughout this project experience I was able to realize many artistic elements and principles are obvious in everyday items.  I also noticed that some pieces can have more than one element or principle apply to them.  I found this interesting because it made me more aware of the objects that surround myself.  I now pay attention more so to the objects and what elements and principles of art may apply to them.

  1. What incredible pictures you used to represent each of the elements. There is no ambiguity at all about any of the pictures you chose. Each one perfectly represents the artistic terms. I liked that you picked the vine to represent "line" and did not purposefully pick a straight line. You can see how each bend of the branch connects. "Balance" was also a clever choice because the green hair pieces in her flaming red hair match the green background of the painting. I particularly like "value" because that is probably one of the most adorable babies I've ever seen.
